Always wanted to make a separate drive for your music and movies, or wanted to keep all your important documents in a different drive for the sake of convenience but have been scared of doing it? Well, here is a step by step guide to help you out in making partition in your hard disk for Vista:-

1) Make sure you are logged in an administrator account. Press the windows button on the lower left corner of the screen and go to Control Panel.

2) In the search box, located on the upper right corner, type Disk. In the results, you shall be able to see the link named Create and format hard disk partitions under the Administrative Tools.

3) Once the window opens, shrink the drive you want to remove empty space from by right clicking it and then clicking on shrink volume.

4) After some calculations, Windows will display the amount of space that can be shrunk and thus re used to be formatted into a new drive.

5) Put in the space of the drive you require (remember 1GB = 1024 MB), and click on shrink.

6) The freed up space is indicated in the row that states your hard disk drive.

7) Click on the free space and right click on format and give a drive letter and name to the drive and you are done.
