Google Chrome Could be the Next Big Thing!

When Google stopped the referral program where publishers were paid every time someone installed Firefox, our light bulbs should have lightened up, that Google must be up to something. Guess what Google was up to? A new Browser, Google Chrome to create more competition for already struggling Internet Explorer.

Why Would Google Create a New Browser?

Really why? There are already a lot of great browsers out there such as Firefox, Opera, Safari, and okay maybe Internet Explorer. But think about it Google can easily take over all these Browsers. Google is the most visited website on the Internet. People use the Internet to visit websites, and if they visit Google the most, I think they can easily spot "New Google Browser" and download it. Google can easily advertise the browser, and make it look like the best thing ever made!

Is Chrome really all that great?

No, Chrome is a very simple, and plain browser. It is currently not even close to being as good as Firefox, Google will have to keep having new updates released to solve bugs. But Chrome does beat Firefox in usage of Memory, which is why some people like it better, since Firefox and Internet Explorer use up a lot of memory.

So will Chrome be Next Big thing?

Well we will just have to wait and see. I wonder if Google is going to pay publisher for promoting Google Chrome?

Internet Explorer losing its users

Internet Explorer shares have been at its lowest in years, 68.15 percent as of December. While Firefox shares are at 21.34 percent, and Apple's Safari also have climed to 7.93 percent because of the rising sales of Mac computer.

Also Google's Chrome browser, which was released in September, passed one percent in December. The only browser from the Top Five Web browsers which appears to be going nowhere is Opera, which share has been around 0.7 percent since February.

Who uses what?

Firefox and Safari are have high residential usage. Firefox got a high usage when users flooded to the web to get the U.S. election results, and the Black Friday sales also attracted at lot of users to the web.

Winner and Loser

As we start 2009, it is expected that Firefox and Safari will both continue to rise in usage. Safari will mainly raise because of rising sales of Mac computer, while Firefox will increase because of word of mouth.

Wikipedia Gets More than What it Asked for

If you have been on Wikipedia a few weeks ago, you probably noticed a desperate letter from the Wikipedia founder, Jimy Wales, who was asking for donations for Wikipeida.

Guess what? now Wikimedia Foundation says, that they have raised more than $6.2 million since they started the fund-raising. There goal was only $6 million, but the extra money will still be used.

Wikipedia is the 4th most popular site on the Internet. They only have 23 workers, because the whole world, well mostly those who have Internet access do the work for them. All the entries are added by users.

So wikipedia has said that all the extra funds will be kept for the following years and they will keep the donation box so people can still donate.
